Hezbollah has deployed an elite unit of its fighters to southern Lebanon to confront Israeli forces advancing in the border region, according to three Lebanese sources. The sources said Hezbollah’s Radwan Unit, one of the group’s most specialised military formations, had been ordered to engage Israeli forces and prevent the advance of Israeli tanks. The town of Khiam was reported to be among several areas where Israeli troops pushed forward on Wednesday. The deployment marks the return of Hezbollah’s elite fighters to the sensitive border area between the Litani River and the Israeli frontier, from which the unit withdrew following the US-brokered ceasefire that ended the 2014 war.
