MANILA, Philippines – The opening of classes in public schools on Monday, June 8, is immediately disrupted in Mindanao, as a powerful earthquake shakes the southern Philippines.
In other parts of the country, the first day of school year 2026-2027 proceeds as scheduled, with the Department of Education introducing policy changes, such as a three-term calendar and a new grading system.
